Stephanie Miner submitted the following comment to the Board of Elections regarding the proposal to weaken the Enforcement Counsel position.
"New York State has a culture of corruption. We’ve experienced countless convictions of public servants, which have shaken the trust of citizens in government. New York has one of the worst voter participation rates in the country. We need more tools – not less -- to restore integrity and rebuild faith with voters.
"Thanks to Citizens United, we live in a time when money influences elections and policy decisions more than ever. It’s imperative that the Enforcement Counsel is fully empowered to monitor how this money is raised and spent.
"I urge the board to reconsider this proposal, which would deal a blow to democracy if it’s enacted."
