Cadillac Move Shows Business Bribes Don’t Work
September 27, 2018 8:58 AM

Syracuse, N.Y., September 27, 2018 – Cadillac proved what Stephanie Miner has been saying for years: wasteful economic development spending rewards campaign donors and doesn’t create jobs.

The state gave Cadillac a $1 million grant for an office in Manhattan. Cadillac decided to move back to Detroit before the state disbursed the money.

“The state doles out billions of dollars to companies that are going to do what they’re going to with or without these funds,” said Miner.

Miner proposes abolishing economic development programs and investing in infrastructure, as well as a state takeover of Medicaid that would reduce taxes for homeowners and businesses.

“If we want businesses to come to New York, we have to create the environment where they want to stay,” said Miner. “Bribing them isn’t the way.”
